Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about silestone here.
Silestone is an engineered quartz surface manufactured by Cosentino. It is produced by combining natural quartz with resins and pigments to create a dense, non-porous slab. Newer Silestone surfaces are made using the company’s HybriQ technology, which incorporates recycled materials and reduces the crystalline silica content compared to earlier formulations. The result is a consistent, hardwearing surface available in a wide range of colors and finishes.
No. Because Silestone is non-porous, it does not require sealing the way granite or marble does. This is one of its main advantages over natural stone, since there is no annual resealing to maintain. The non-porous surface also resists staining from common kitchen substances such as coffee, wine, and oil, and it does not readily harbor bacteria, which makes it a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms.
Daily cleaning is simple. Warm water with a mild soap and a soft cloth is all that is needed for routine maintenance. For more stubborn residue, a non-abrasive surface cleaner works well. It is best to avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scouring pads, and products with high or low pH levels, as these can dull the finish over time. While Silestone is highly resistant to scratches and stains, it is not heatproof, so using trivets or hot pads under pots and pans is recommended to protect the surface from thermal shock.
