Quartz countertops are an engineered stone, made from about 90–95% ground natural quartz combined with resins, polymers, and pigments. This process creates a nonporous surface that’s stronger and more consistent in color than natural stones, offering both durability and design flexibility.
Quartz is resistant to moderate heat, but it’s not heatproof. While a warm mug or plate won’t harm the surface, direct contact with very hot cookware can cause discoloration or cracking. To keep your counters looking their best, always use trivets or hot pads under pots and pans.
No, quartz does not need sealing. The resins used during manufacturing fill the stone’s natural pores, making it nonporous and resistant to stains, bacteria, and moisture. This low-maintenance quality is one of the main reasons homeowners choose quartz for busy kitchens and bathrooms.
